Frustrating F2 weekend for DAMS Lucas Oil in Bahrain

DAMS Lucas Oil missed out on points during a difficult Round 2 of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship at Bahrain International Circuit.

In Saturday’s Sprint Race, having qualifying 14th, Jak Crawford battled through a gearbox issue to cross the line in 12th, while Alpine F1 Team and Test Reserve Driver Kush Maini finished 17th, after both switched to the soft tyre under a late Safety Car in a bid to make overtakes in the final laps.

On Sunday, the Aston Martin F1 Reserve and Development Driver quickly made his way into the top-10 on the option tyre, before a slow pit stop meant he finished 14th. Maini opted for the opposite strategy and despite showing pace later in the event, crossed the line in 18th.

The championship now heads to Jeddah for the second instalment of the double-header on 18-20 April.

Kush Maini: “There are a few positives to take forward to Jeddah on what has been a tough event for the whole team. We’ll now reset and analyse what went wrong before getting out on-track again. I have full trust in the crew to turn this around and get us back to where we should be.”

Charles Pic, Team Owner: “It was a challenging weekend for us as we made too

many mistakes as a team. After a tricky qualifying it was always going to be difficult to score points, and we had a great chance with the late strategy call in the Sprint Race, pitting both cars under the Safety Car. Unfortunately, Jak had a gearbox issue meaning he couldn’t fight his way forward, and Kush put together some good laps but wasn’t able to catch up. We tried different strategies with the drivers on Sunday, as Jak went on the option tyre and gained places early, while Kush went on the hards. We made mistakes in both drivers’ pit stops, causing them to lose time which compromised their races. We now head to Jeddah aiming to put this weekend behind us and achieve some positive results.”
