DAMS Lucas Oil takes remarkable double F2 victory in Monaco

DAMS Lucas Oil secured wins in both the Feature and Sprint Races with Jak Crawford and Kush Maini respectively on the streets of Monte-Carlo during Round 5 of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Starting on semi-reverse grid pole for Saturday’s Sprint, Alpine F1 Team Test and Reserve Driver Maini held the lead off the line and withstood constant pressure to deliver an excellent lights-to-flag victory around the Principality.

In the #11 car, Crawford started fourth and despite sustaining damage from another competitor on the opening lap, put in a battling performance to cross the line in the same position he started, gaining five points.

For Sunday’s Feature, the Aston Martin F1 Reserve and Development Driver lined up seventh and managed to avoid any contact during a chaotic start, which caused a lengthy red flag. When proceedings finally got back underway, the American slotted into fourth and was showing excellent pace, closing in on the cars ahead. As a late Safety Car emerged, he headed into the pit-lane to execute his mandatory pit stop and one lap later would move into the lead of the race. Following a second red flag right at the end of the event, the race concluded with Crawford in first, securing a second win of the weekend for the Le Mans-based outfit, and becoming the first team in the modern Formula 2 era to take a double victory in Monte-Carlo.

On the other side of the garage, Maini also stayed out of trouble on the opening lap and delivered a solid performance to gain four positions, crossing the line in sixth.

Formula 2 now heads to Barcelona for the final instalment of the current triple-header on 30 May – 1 June.

Jak Crawford: “Winning in Monaco is a special moment. We showed great speed and managed to stay sharp through the chaos. In the Feature Race, the timing of the Safety Car was critical and I made the call to box, which ended up being a super late call. The team executed the stop perfectly and we came out in the lead. It’s a great result for everyone at DAMS Lucas Oil and a fantastic weekend for the team! We’re aiming to continue this strong run of form through the middle part of the season.”

Qualifying: 7th | Sprint Race: 4th (+5 points) | Feature Race: 1st (+13 points)

Kush Maini: “It’s a very special feeling to clinch victory in Monaco and with the sixth place finish in the Feature Race, this means we’ve taken a strong haul of points this weekend. The round was a great one for the team with Jak also claiming the win during Sunday’s event to ensure a double success! It feels like this is the start of our season and as we head straight to Barcelona, we’ll aim to keep this momentum going as we build on these results.”

Qualifying: 10th | Sprint Race: 1st (+10 points) | Feature Race: 6th (+4 points)

Charles Pic, Team Owner: “We’re thrilled to take a double win in Monte-Carlo, becoming the first team to do so in the modern era of Formula 2. Qualifying was a tight session, but we knew how important it is in Monaco to be starting in the top-10 to have any chance of points, which is exactly what Jak and Kush did. On Saturday, Kush drove brilliantly under constant pressure to deliver his first win of the season, and Jak battled through with heavy damage to take solid points. In the Feature, both drivers managed to avoid the chaos at Turn 1 and once the race finally restarted settled into a good pace. Jak was very intelligent to back off in the final corners under Virtual Safety Car conditions until it turned to a full Safety Car, to then dive into the pits. The team delivered an excellent double-stack stop under pressure which helped get Jak out in the lead as well as maintain Kush’s sixth place. Overall, it’s been a strong weekend which we can all be proud of as we head to the final instalment of the triple-header in Barcelona.”
