DAMS Lucas Oil takes superb F2 Feature Race win at Silverstone with Jak Crawford
DAMS Lucas Oil’s Jak Crawford put in a great performance in Round 8 of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship, clinching Feature Race victory at Silverstone. The previous day, Kush Maini and Crawford scored a double-points finish in the Sprint Race, helping the squad move up to second in the Teams’ standings.
Both drivers showed good speed in qualifying, with Crawford taking third and Maini earning ninth. That meant the Alpine F1 Team Test and Reserve Driver would start on the front row for Saturday’s Sprint Race.
Maini took the lead with an excellent launch off the line, but would lose it later that lap after an intense battle with another car. The Indian driver held second for several laps, before dropping to fourth in the latter stages. Meanwhile, Crawford was involved in a race-long fight in the chasing pack, crossing the line sixth.
The Aston Martin F1 Reserve and Development Driver got a fantastic start in the Feature Race to vault up to first from third on the grid. In mixed conditions, Crawford managed his wet tyres superbly, pitting just before a Virtual Safety Car and remaining in the lead when green flag running resumed. A strong restart saw him hold the lead, before the race ended under Safety Car following another incident. The win was Crawford’s third and the team’s fourth of the season, meaning both the American and the French squad move up to second in their respective championships. Maini had a more difficult race, taking a gamble on slick tyres as the track was drying, before rain returned and he had to change back onto wets, eventually finishing 16th.
Formula 2 now takes a short break, returning at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on 25-27 July.
Jak Crawford: “It was a really strong weekend for the team and I’m proud to deliver the Feature Race win at Silverstone. We showed good pace right from FP, into qualifying, and the car felt great in the changing conditions on Sunday. The team nailed the strategy, especially with the timing of the pit stop before the Virtual Safety Car, which helped seal the deal. We’re building great momentum now and I’m looking forward to carrying that into Spa and the rest of the season.”
Qualifying: 3rd | Sprint Race: 6th (+3 points) | Feature Race: 1st (+25 points)
Kush Maini: “It was a difficult weekend for us at Silverstone. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to hold on to the podium on Saturday, and then had a tough day in the Feature. Time to re-group and work harder with the team to be ready for Spa.”
Qualifying: 9th | Sprint Race:4th (+5 points) | Feature Race: 16th
Charles Pic, Team Owner: “We had a great rhythm in Free Practice, we know our baseline at Silverstone is good but this proved it again. Qualifying was positive, Jak put together a strong lap to take third and Kush was able to claim ninth. The Sprint Race was a bit frustrating, Kush didn’t have the pace to secure the podium and Jak got stuck in a DRS train. In the Feature, Jak’s start was incredible and he did a brilliant job in the first stint to hold the lead. We delayed the pit stop as we didn’t know whether to stay on wets or switch to slicks. Luckily we pitted just before the Virtual Safety Car and Jak was able to bring back the win. On Kush’s side, we took a gamble on slick tyres, but it didn’t pay off as the rain returned and he had to pit again for wets. We clearly have good pace in the car and we’ll be looking to build on this at Spa and Hungary before the summer break.”
