DAMS Lucas Oil scores F2 podiums in both races with Jak Crawford in Hungary
DAMS Lucas Oil secured third place finishes across both the Feature and Sprint Races with Jak Crawford in Round 10 of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Hungaroring, while Kush Maini narrowly missed out on points.
Crawford delivered an excellent lap in Qualifying to put himself third as Maini was impeded during the session, which led to him starting both events from 19th.
In Saturday’s Sprint, Crawford lined up in eighth on the semi-reserve grid and gained three places on the opening tour. The Aston Martin F1 Reserve and Development Driver managed his tyres well, making his way onto the podium with a brilliant overtake on the final lap of the race.
On the other side of the garage, Maini made up an impressive eight places to initially cross the line in 11th, before post-race penalties elevated him up to ninth, missing out on the points by just over a second.
Sunday’s Feature saw Crawford maintain third off the line on the soft tyre, before pitting on Lap 16 for mediums. The American showed great pace to put pressure on the second-placed driver, although he eventually had to settle for third. This result now also sees Crawford move up to second in the Drivers’ Championship.
In the #12 car, Maini went on the alternate strategy, taking his medium compound until Lap 28 before putting on fresh soft rubber. The Indian driver gained eight places across the event to narrowly miss out on the top-10, finishing 11th.
Formula 2 returns after the summer break to take on the Temple of Speed at Monza on 5-7 September.
Jak Crawford: “It was a very strong weekend as we made great improvements from Free Practice to Qualifying to help us secure third, with one of my best laps of the season so far. In the Sprint we gained positions off the start and looked after the tyres well to make our way onto the podium on the last lap. After a tricky start in difficult conditions in the Feature, we showed great pace and delivered another top three finish. Overall, it was great to take a strong haul of points after a disappointing weekend in Spa, and we’ll look to keep this momentum going in Monza after the break.
Qualifying: 3rd | Sprint Race: 3rd (+6 points) | Feature Race: 3rd (+15 points)
Kush Maini: “It was a tough weekend after I had traffic in Qualifying which meant that we couldn’t complete our final flying lap. This meant we started both races from 19th, but we showed solid pace across the weekend to narrowly miss out on the points during both events. It’s frustrating but we know that the speed is there, so we’ll keep on pushing after the summer break.”
Qualifying: 20th | Sprint Race: 9th | Feature Race: 11th
Charles Pic, Team Owner: “We’re delighted to score podium finishes in both races with Jak! We made good improvements to the car from Free Practice to Qualifying which saw Jak qualify third, and Kush could’ve been in the top-10 had he not been impeded during his lap. In the Sprint, Jak gained three places on the opening tour and then saved his tyres well to come through to clinch third, while Kush also managed the race well to just miss out on the points.
For Sunday’s Feature, Jak showed strong pace, and we lost a couple of seconds in the pit stop which could’ve seen us go on to challenge for the victory, but it was still great to take another Feature Race podium. Kush faced an issue at the beginning of the event, but went onto set the fastest lap of the race as he came back through to finish 11th. Overall, it’s a great weekend for us as the reactions and feedback from both the team and drivers was very positive to fight back following Spa. It leaves us in a good position for the championships heading into the summer break.”
