DAMS Lucas Oil clinches Sprint Race fourth in F3 season finale at Monza
DAMS Lucas Oil showed promising pace throughout the final event of the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship with all three drivers, as Matías Zagazeta scored a fourth-place finish during Saturday’s event to end the Le Mans-based outfit’s debut campaign on a high.
The Peruvian racer delivered an excellent performance in Qualifying to secure seventh on Friday, while Christian Ho managed 18th and Nicola Lacorte 26th.
In Saturday’s Sprint, Zagazeta moved into the top-five quickly, showing strong pace to fight for the leading positions, initially crossing the line in fifth, before a post-race penalty for another driver moved him up to fourth. Ho would finish in 23rd as Lacorte was classified in 28th after a 10 second time penalty.
Sunday’s Feature started off well for Zagazeta, who looked on course to deliver a great result, running in fifth. However, contact with another driver forced him off track, sustaining race ending damage.
Lacorte showed excellent pace making up 16 places to sit 10th heading into the final lap, but after locking up into Turn 1 and going over the kerb, the Italian’s car went into anti-stall, meaning he finished 22nd. Ho also delivered a solid performance, gaining five positions to cross the line in 13th.
Formula 3 is back next month to begin preparations for the 2026 season with testing getting underway in Jerez on 7-8 October, before trips to Barcelona (15-16 October) and Imola (21-22 October).
Matías Zagazeta: “Overall, I’m very happy with the performance this weekend as, up until the contact in the Feature Race, we were consistently running in the top-seven throughout the sessions. I’m so pleased to finish the year off like this and be able to battle at the front all weekend long. I would like to thank the team for all their efforts this season and I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on in the future.”
Qualifying: 7th | Sprint Race: 4th (+7 points) | Feature Race: DNF
Christian Ho: “It was the first time I’ve raced at Monza, and it was a solid weekend. We made a mistake in Qualifying which meant we only got one push lap, limiting our chances of getting into the top-12. We still managed to climb up five positions to 13th in the Feature which was positive! This season has been a learning experience for both me and the team, and I would like to thank the crew for all their hard work throughout 2025.”
Qualifying: 18th | Sprint Race: 23rd | Feature Race: 13th
Nicola Lacorte: “We had great pace after some issues in Qualifying with strategy and positioning, but the races were very smooth. We were so close to points in the Feature but unfortunately this didn’t happen due to a problem on the final lap. Thanks to the team for their efforts throughout the season and for delivering a positive final weekend.”
Qualifying: 26th | Sprint Race: 28th | Feature Race: 22nd
Charles Pic, Team Owner: “We’re pleased to see Matías scoring points for the team and all three drivers showing positive race pace throughout the weekend. We had Nicola and Christian in the first Qualifying group, and we tried something different to optimise track position, but it didn’t work. Matías managed to get a good place in the pack and secured fourth in the second group. Saturday’s Sprint saw him go on to take fourth and he showed great pace throughout while Nicola and Christian had a more difficult event. Sunday’s Feature started very positive with Matías running in the top-five until contact took him out of the race. Nicola looked on course to score points from 26th on the grid, before the car went into anti-stall on the final lap after he went over the kerb at Turn 1. Overall, the pace was much better than the last event and we’ll look to build on this performance going forward into the 2026 season with testing starting in October.”
