DAMS Lucas Oil secures victory at Imola with Jak Crawford
DAMS Lucas Oil took the Sprint Race win during Round 4 of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 campaign, with Jak Crawford putting in an excellent performance to secure his third victory in the series.
Both Crawford and teammate Kush Maini had solid pace in qualifying, before the Indian driver went off track, bringing out a red flag. The session was then ended with six minutes left on the clock, meaning Crawford was classified ninth, and Maini 13th.
Starting second for the semi-reverse grid Sprint, the Aston Martin F1 Reserve and Development Driver took the lead off the line and delivered a mature showing to secure 10 points for victory. Meanwhile, Alpine F1 Team Test and Reserve Driver Maini battled hard in a tightly-matched field, finishing 13th.
Crawford made a strong start in the Feature, moving up into fifth and being involved in a dramatic six-car battle for the lead. The American would be unlucky to lose a place during the pit-stop phase, but kept the pressure up on those ahead. A Safety Car mid-race saw the leaders catch the alternate strategy runners, leading to chaotic fights for position, with Crawford eventually holding sixth and adding eight more points to his championship tally.
Maini opted to take a gamble on the alternate strategy by pitting early under the Safety Car, but his Supersoft tyres were unable to last the remaining laps, forcing him into another stop. He showed strong pace in clean air in the closing stages, crossing the line 21st.
Formula 2 heads directly to Monaco for the second event of the current triple-header, on 22-25 May.
Jak Crawford: “It was a great feeling to take the win in the Sprint Race – the car felt strong and I was able to manage things well from the front. In the Feature, we made a good start and were right in the mix, but unfortunately, we lost some time and track position during the pit stop phase which cost us a shot at the podium. Still, sixth place and solid points to end the weekend, and overall I’m happy with how we’re progressing.”

Kush Maini: “A tough weekend for me, Free Practice was strong and the car felt good in qualifying. The first run was decent although unfortunately an incident on the second set meant we lost our best lap and dropped out of the top-10. The races were difficult from then on, but the speed in the car is positive so we need to focus on putting it all together in the next rounds.”

Charles Pic, Team Owner: “The weekend started well with both drivers comfortable in Free Practice. The pace was good on the first set in qualifying, with our drivers fifth and sixth. Unfortunately, Kush had an incident on the second set and brought out the red flag, which prevented Jak from completing a lap. The session was then brought to an end so we were not in the positions on the grid we had hoped for. Jak put in a really good performance in the Sprint, taking the lead off the line and building a gap which he held until the end. The mechanics did a great job to repair Kush’s car, although the balance was not the same as it was in Free Practice. In the Feature, Jak got a good start again and drove well. We tried an overcut, but got held up in the pitlane and lost a position. It was difficult for him to overtake on this track, however sixth is still a solid result. On Kush’s side, the Safety Car was at a bad time for the alternate strategy runners. He chose to pit during the intervention, but the gamble didn’t pay off and the tyres wore out, meaning he had to come in again. However, he did show great pace in the final laps, which is a positive for the future.”
