DAMS Lucas Oil clinches Feature Race podium in Austria with Jak Crawford

DAMS Lucas Oil secured third during Sunday’s Feature Race at Round 7 of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship in Austria, as Jak Crawford completed an excellent comeback drive from 14th to the podium.

It was a difficult Sprint Race on Saturday as a technical problem on the way to the grid meant Crawford couldn’t start the event, while Kush Maini finished 17th in the #12 car.

On Sunday, Crawford made up three positions on the opening tour of the Red Bull Ring before pitting on Lap 7. The Aston Martin F1 Reserve and Development Driver managed his soft tyres well and produced some brilliant overtakes in the latter stages of the event to initially take fourth. However, a post-race disqualification for another driver promoted the American onto the podium, clinching third, his fourth top-three finish in the last five rounds.

On the other side of the garage, Maini opted for the alternate strategy and moved into the lead of the Feature Race on Lap 10. The Alpine F1 Team Test and Reserve Driver would make his stop later on, but was involved in an incident while battling for position, forcing him back into the pits to change his front wing, crossing the line in 16th.

Formula 2 completes the current double-header at Silverstone on 4-6 July, as the championship passes the halfway stage of the 2025 campaign.

Jak Crawford: “I’m really pleased with the recovery drive on Sunday — we had strong pace and executed everything well on our side during the Feature Race. We were fortunate to inherit third after a disqualification ahead, but we put ourselves in the right position to take advantage of it. After the setback on Saturday, it was great to bounce back with a podium and carry some momentum into Silverstone.”

Qualifying: 15th | Sprint Race: DNS | Feature Race: 3rd (+15 points)

Kush Maini: “It was a tough weekend in Austria, but we know the places we need to improve, so we’ll look to put things right next time out at Silverstone, which is a round I’m looking forward to.”

Qualifying: 18th | Sprint Race:17th | Feature Race: 16th

Charles Pic, Team Owner: “We’re pleased that Jak managed to produce an excellent recovery drive, coming from 14th to the podium during Sunday’s Feature Race! We had a promising Free Practice with both drivers in the top-10, but we couldn’t replicate this pace in qualifying. Saturday’s Sprint was difficult after Jak suffered a technical problem outside the team’s control on the way to the grid, meaning he didn’t start the event, and Kush could only manage P17. On Sunday, we opted for the traditional strategy with Jak and gained three positions on the opening tour before pitting on Lap 7. He managed his tyres perfectly and ended the race very strong, overtaking several cars to initially finish P4 before the post-race disqualification for another driver moved him up to third. It’s great to see Jak now third in the Drivers’ Standings as well! With Kush, we went for the alternate strategy, and he led for several laps before he pitted, but unfortunately, he had to stop again after an incident, eventually finishing P16. There are some positives to take from the weekend, but overall we know we need to improve our qualifying pace to be more competitive.”
