DAMS Lucas Oil clinches F3 points in both races at Silverstone
DAMS Lucas Oil returned to the points in Round 7 of the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship at Silverstone, with Christian Ho taking top-6 finishes in both races.
A positive qualifying performance from the Singaporean driver saw him clinch 11th, meaning he would start on the front row for Saturday’s Sprint Race. Matìas Zagazeta took 24th, while Nicola Lacorte would line up 27th for both events.
Starting second for the 18-lap Sprint, Ho fought hard to hold position, eventually finishing sixth and five valuable points. Nicola Lacorte moved forwards to earn 23rd, while Zagazeta took 25th.
On Sunday, mixed conditions at the start meant teams and drivers across the field were unsure whether to start on wet or dry tyres. Ho and Lacorte opted for wets, while Zagazeta bolted on slicks. It became clear early on that wets were the way to go, and Ho moved strongly into the points-paying positions. The rain intensified through the race, with the Safety Car called into action before the red flag was thrown. Reduced points were awarded, meaning Ho claimed eight for his personal-best F3 finish of fifth. Lacorte made good progress to move into 11th, although a penalty dropped him to 15th, while Zagazeta was 25th after having to switch to wet-weather tyres.
Just three rounds remain on the Formula 3 calendar, with the next at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on July 26-27.
Christian Ho: “We had a really good weekend at Silverstone, we didn’t expect to be so competitive after a difficult round in Austria. Ahead of qualifying, we made some positive changes and I managed to take P11. It could’ve been even more but a mistake on my fastest lap cost me some time, so that shows our potential. The objective was to fight for the Sprint Race win from the front row, but we didn’t have the pace to stay with the leaders. P6 was still a solid result and good points. We saw the dark clouds coming ahead of the Feature and made the right call to start on wet tyres. The first lap was all about getting through the chaos, and I was able to bring home P5, which is a great finish for us. Hopefully we can continue this positive momentum at Spa, which is a track I really enjoy.”
Qualifying: 11th | Sprint Race: 6th (+5 points) | Feature Race: 5th (+8 points)
Nicola Lacorte: “Overall it was a satisfying weekend and I was really happy to be back in the car. The balance was good from qualifying onwards, but unfortunately a difficult session made it tough for both races. Overtaking was hard in the Sprint but I still managed to move forwards, and Race 2 was great. The conditions were tough, we made the right call on wet tyres and came through the field strongly. We’ll keep working and our aim is to continue on this positive trend.”
Qualifying: 27th | Sprint Race: 23rd | Feature Race: 15th
Matìas Zagazeta: “Silverstone was a good weekend for the team, we made a positive step forward and Christian did a great job to score points. Unfortunately I made a lot of mistakes and I’m disappointed I couldn’t maximise my results. I’ll look to come back fresh at Spa and have a better weekend.”
Qualifying: 24th | Sprint Race: 25th | Feature Race: 24th
Charles Pic, Team Owner: “We made some improvements to the car after Free Practice, which meant we had much more potential for qualifying. Christian was able to extract good performance and secured P11, meaning he was on the front row for the Sprint Race. We tried to optimise the set-up and aim for a podium, but unfortunately we didn’t quite have the speed and Christian finished sixth. Nicola showed his solid race pace to move forwards as he usually does, although Matìas found it difficult to overtake. In the Feature Race, the field was mixed in terms of tyre choice, with most on wets, which turned out to be the correct decision. Christian and Nicola were able to make overtakes, showing strong speed, with Christian taking good points in fifth and Nicola working his way into 11th before a penalty dropped him back down. Matìas opted to gamble on slick tyres, but it didn’t work out and he had to pit again. Our performance was promising this weekend, so we’ll look to keep going in this direction ahead of Spa.”
