Unrewarded pace for DAMS Lucas Oil in Montreal
DAMS Lucas Oil in the points in Round 3 of the 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship at Montreal, after a difficult week-end with changeable conditions for Formula 2’s first visit to the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
DAMS Lucas Oil showed strong pace at the start of Qualifying in Montreal, with Dino Beganovic and Roman Bilinski ultimately finishing 14th and 15th after a heavily-interrupted session marked by multiple red flags and constant track evolution.
In Saturday’s Sprint a strong start for Bilinski saw the Formula 2’s rookie work his way up the order in the opening stages. He gains positions during the 28-lap race, moving up to eighth, claiming the final point on offer. On the other side of the garage Beganovic, recovered from a challenging start to remain firmly in contention inside the points-paying positions, moving up into sixth position.
Damp weather greeted the drivers for Sunday’s Feature Race, however Roman Bilinski got a fantastic start with an alternative strategy with prime tires. Without pitting under the first safety car he managed to lead the race for almost ten laps and showed strong pace. A late pitstop and several safety cars didn’t permit him to finish better than P9 on track. On top of this he received a ten-second time penalty, leaving him narrowly outside of the points at 13th position.
Meanwhile Beganovic opted to start with option tires and showing pace later in the race, he made a strong performance climbing from P14 to P2 after an early pitstop under safety car. While closing the gap to the leader Dino faced a technical issue which forced him to retire.
Formula 2 now heads to Monaco, for Round 4 of the campaign.
Dino Beganovic :
« We did a good job to bounce back in Sprint, after a disappointed qualifying. Our overall pace was good throughout the week-end, but unfortunately we faced a technical issue during the Feature race. I’m sad with the result because we simply were not at the level we should have been in the weekend, will keep the positives and continue to work hard with the team ».
Qualifying: 14th | Sprint Race: 6th (+3 points) | Feature Race: DNF
Roman Bilinski:
« There are a lot of positives to take away, even if an early safety car disrupted the strategy we had planned. It’s frustrating as we had stronger potential this weekend. Now we’ll keep working hard for next round in Monaco ».
Qualifying: 15th| Sprint Race: 8th (+1 point) | Feature Race: 13th
Charles Pic, Team Owner:
« Pace was there, but we made too many mistakes collectively. We need to react quickly and deliver cleaner weekends moving forward. »
