DAMS Lucas Oil picks up Feature Race podium at Silverstone
DAMS Lucas Oil secured a podium at Silverstone, as Jak Crawford showed brilliant pace to finish third in Sunday’s Feature Race.
Crawford qualified in a solid seventh, meaning he would start fourth in the Sprint Race, which took place in tricky wet conditions. As the American stayed out of trouble to secure points in sixth, Juan Manuel Correa battled to 12th from 15th on the grid.
On Sunday, the Aston Martin Driver Development Programme member got an excellent start to the Feature Race, gaining three places on the opening loop, before pitting on Lap 10 for the hard tyre. Crawford would move into the net race lead on Lap 19, showing stunning pace to take the chequered flag first, but he would finish third, after receiving a five-second penalty for an unsafe release.
In the #8 car, Correa would show strong speed on the alternate strategy, sitting in second for the majority of the race, before an incident in the pit lane and late puncture would leave the American-Ecuadorian in 20th.
Jak Crawford: “I’m pleased to pick up another podium at Silverstone in what was a tricky weekend with the constant changes in track conditions. In the Feature Race, I pushed like crazy after we received the penalty, and only just missed out by a tenth of a second on P2. The pace was excellent, and it’s now my sixth consecutive point scoring finish, showing the consistency we’ve had in recent weeks. It was a positive triple-header for us, and we’ll now make sure that we continue to improve during the last two rounds before the summer break.”

Juan Manuel Correa: “We showed good rhythm in the Feature Race, being second of the alternate strategy runners, but a slow stop mixed in with a puncture cost us a chance of points. It was a frustrating event, we have a weekend off now to analyse what we can improve on going into the next race in Hungary. I would also like to apologise to the team and the mechanic who was injured during my stop, it was very unfortunate and I’m sending him my best wishes.”

Charles Pic, Team Owner: “We’re happy to secure a Feature Race podium with Jak who drove very well, but it could’ve been the win. It’s another top-3 for the team and the race pace looked strong with both cars. We were in a close fight for position at Jak’s pit-stop and we hoped to get him out ahead of his rival. It was really tight, we tried and we got unfortunately penalised. The speed shown from Jak was very impressive to secure the podium, only narrowly missing out on P2. JM looked on for points before the incident at the pit stop, and he also had a puncture straight after which meant he had to come in again. We want to send our best wishes to our mechanic Christophe, who injured his hand during JM’s pit stop, and wish him a speedy recovery.”
